Canine Good Citizen
Prerequisite: Basic Manners or S.T.A.R. Puppy
Cost: $50
Meets: Once a week (1 hour) for 3 weeks, test on week 4
This is a prep class for those interested in taking the Canine Good Citizen test. We will only work on parts of the test teams are having trouble with. Dogs must have had basic training before taking this class.
The AKC’s Canine Good Citizen Program is designed to recognize dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. This nationally recognized program stresses responsible dog ownership for owners and basic training and good manners for dogs. Dogs do not need to be purebred or AKC registered to participate.
To pass the test, dogs must:

Accept a friendly stranger

Sit politely for petting

Permit an exam of body/ears/feet

Walk on a loose leash

Walk through a crowd
-
Sit/Down/Stay on command

Come when called
-
Walk past another dog
-
React appropriately to distractions
-
Be separated from their handler for 3 minutes
