The S.T.A.R. Puppy program will help get your puppy off on the right foot. Open to dogs under 6 months old, the focus is on Socialization, Training, Activity, and Responsibility. Puppies must attend six weeks of training in order to be tested.

Based on the AKC Canine Good Citizen* and S.T.A.R. Puppy tests, this class will cover: attention, sit, down, stay, come, leash manners, politely greeting people and more. Dogs adopted from the New Castle Animal Shelter receive a 25% discount on basic manners class.

This class is only open to dogs and handlers that have been through our Basic Manners Class. We will meet at the shelter both inside and outside and may take field trips to other locations. We will work on social passing, stay at a distance, off leash work and more.
The Canine Good Citizen program is open to all dogs and promotes responsible dog ownership through training in basic obedience. The test consists of ten exercises that demonstrates the dog's ability to handle everyday situations. More information can be found here.
Do more with your dog! Keep your dog active and have fun at the same time. Trick Dog is a new program offered by the AKC. Show off your dog's skills and earn a few titles at the same time. More information can be found here.
Fitness & Parkour
Keep your dog fit and active and have fun with our Fitness and Parkour class. Each week we will learn a new element of canine fitness and work on some fun parkour moves.
Rally is a sport where you and your dog work together as a team maneuvering through a course of 10-15 stations. Each station consists of an obedience move you must complete before moving to the next station.
The New Castle Henry County Animal Shelter offers a free training consultation to anybody who has adopted a dog from the Shelter. This session will give you tips on integrating your new addition into the family, address any issues you may
be having, and provide you with general training advice. Good for up to one year after adoption.
